Summer.... Vacation.... and fun... but don't let your kids toothbrush go on vacation too.
Ways to prevent summertime cavities:
Brush 2x Daily
ADA pediatric dentist Dr. Mary Hayes says. “It’s important for families to consistently brush and floss, which keeps kids on track for healthy back-to-school dental visits.”
No matter how busy the schedules of your kids this summer, monitor their brushing daily. Brush your teeth with them for 2 minutes, twice a day. Also help, guide & teach them how to floss properly. Doing it together will build in them a habit of brushing & flossing regularly.
Limit intake of sugary drinks and snacks
During summer, families more often than not drink soda & juices when theyre out in the sun or any excursions. Keep track of giving your family so much sugary snacks & drinks, instead give them water to beat the heat. “Consider sugary drinks treats to enjoy once in a while, and not often. Taking a break from snacking is healthy for your teeth,” says Dr. Hayes.
Snack smarter at home and wait for your kids to be hungry rather than giving them snacks continously.
Summer back-to-school dental visit
Regular visits to the dentist at least twice a year keeps your child's dental health in shape. Grade schools require a dental clearance before classes starts so this is the best time to get that done. Just in case children need some treatments, they can be taken care of during summer before school begins. Make their dental visits in between summer fun & trips.
