Pre-Operative Instructions for Minimal Oral Conscious Sedation
Preparing for Your Appointment with Dr. Velasquez
To ensure your dental procedure is as safe and comfortable as possible, please follow these instructions carefully.
Failure to follow these guidelines may result in the rescheduling of your appointment.

💊 Medication Guidelines
Properly managing your medications is the most critical step for a successful sedation session.

• Your Prescription: If Dr. Velasquez provided a prescription, take the oral sedative the night before your appointment exactly as instructed. Important: Bring all remaining tablets with you to your appointment.
• Routine Medications: Continue taking regular medications (e.g., for High Blood Pressure or antibiotics) as prescribed by your physician. Take these with only a small sip of water.
• Medication Changes: If Dr. Velasquez instructed you to stop a specific medication a few days prior, please ensure you have done so.
• What to Avoid: Do not take antihistamines, sleeping pills, or consume any alcohol the night before your appointment, as these can react poorly with the sedative.

🍽️ Diet and Fasting

• General Patients: Eat a light meal 4 hours before your scheduled appointment.
• Clear Liquids: You may have clear liquids (water or apple juice) up until 1 hour before your appointment.
• Diabetic Patients: Please consume Pre-Surgical Ensure or clear liquids 2 hours before your appointment to maintain stable blood sugar.

🚗 Required: Designated Driver & Supervision
For your safety, the following rules regarding your transportation are strictly enforced:

• The Driver: You must have a responsible adult accompany you to the office, remain present during the procedure, and drive you home.
• At-Home Care: The sedative causes drowsiness that can last up to 24 hours. A responsible adult must stay with you until you are fully recovered.
• Recovery Restrictions: For 24 hours following sedation, do not drive, operate heavy machinery, or make any important legal or business decisions.

👕 Clothing and Preparation

• Attire: Wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing. Please ensure sleeves are loose enough to be rolled up easily so we can monitor your vitals.
• Footwear: Wear flat, sturdy shoes.
• Nails: Please remove acrylic nail polish from at least one finger, as it can interfere with our oxygen monitoring equipment.

⚠️ When to Call Our Office
​If you develop any symptoms of illness 24–48 hours before your appointment, please contact us immediately at 562-424-9473. This includes:

• Stuffy nose or sinus drainage
• Sore throat or cough
• Fever or flu-like symptoms
