Braces
Treatment and solution for misaligned, crooked, crowded, gapped, protruded, crossbite, underbite, overbite, facial asymmetry, and abnormal jaw shifting.
How Braces work
Orthodontic treatment is also one method a cosmetic dentist can improve the smile &
appearance leading to self esteem & confidence. It involves using constant and gentle pressure on the teeth to move them in the right direction to achieve proper alignment.
Full orthodontic treatment can go from 1 to 3 years depending on severity and patient. Patient compliance in wearing elastics or rubber bands is also important in getting the treatment duration on track.

Oral Hygiene with Braces
It is important to maintain excellent oral hygiene regimen throughout the whole course of your orthodontic treatment. It will take a little longer to brush and floss your teeth since you'll have brackets, wires, and elastics in your mouth that can trap food particles.

Openbite
This problem usually starts during early stages of life when a baby develops a habit of
thumsucking and carries it on to childhood wherein critical eruption of permanent teeth
happens. If thumbsucking becomes a habit, it usually affects the upper and lower front teeth to protrude and both upper & lower doesn't meet during biting and creates space that accommodates the thumb being sucked. It also affects the formation of the upper jaw which
then creates a deep concave palate.

Antiseptic Mouth rinse
Peroxyl is a hydrogen peroxide antibacterial mouth rinse. It can be use for minor irritations, canker sores, or cheek bites. It helps prevent infection. Rinse mouth with 2 teaspoons of peroxyl for one minute and spit. Use it after brushing teeth up to 3 times a day.
Stannous Flouride Gel
Gel-Kam or Flo-Gel are brand names of Stannous fluoride gel. It helps prevent tooth decay
when wearing braces by coating and providing tooth enamel with fluoride. The fluoride gel is not a toothpaste and does not replace daily brushing and should be done before bedtime after your scheduled brushing and flossing. Apply a small strip of gel to teeth with toothbrush for one minute and spit. It is important that it stays on your teeth, so do not
remove it away by eating or drinking for at least 30 minutes.

Interdental Toothbrush
Interdental toothbrush or Proxabrush can be use to clean in between the teeth, underneath the wires and around the brackets. This will maintain healthy gums and teeth during the whole duration of the treatment.
Flossing with Braces
Floss Threader can be used when flossing with braces. This is done the same way as a needle and thread, inserting the floss in the floss threader and then using the threader to get in under the archwire so flossing is possible on both sides of each tooth.

Orthodontic Home Care Instructions
The goals of orthodontic treatment include getting the best possible result in the least amount of time with the least danger to your teeth. Parents, your guidance is needed as your child goes through it. Following the instructions below is critical to maintaining your dental health on braces.
1. Certain habits, foods and drinks can cause the brackets and /or bands to become loose. Please avoid carbonated drinks (soda) and hard, sticky and crunchy foods (chips, popcorn, beef jerky, gum, etc). Please don’t bite on hard objects (like pencil or utensil) or push the brackets with finger nail.
2. Despite proper care, occasionally, a band or bracket comes loose. Call the office for appointment to replace it. Bring pieces, brackets and/or bands with you on your appointment. Don’t just ‘drop in’ and expect it to be replaced because we have scheduled patients that must be attended to, and it might be impossible for us to work on you.
3. Be sure to bring all appliance and bands you were instructed to use at every appointment.
4. Wear rubber bands, elastics and appliance exactly as prescribed otherwise correction cannot occur and damage to teeth can take place as a result.
5. Brush 5 seconds above and 5 seconds below the wire on each tooth surface twice a day and floss properly with the use of threader every night. You can use WATERPIK in addition to flossing regularly.
Remember, our best efforts cannot undo what the patient does not do; and, if proper home care procedures are not done, permanent damage to teeth can occur.
